Spring Cleaning Yard Tips from the Experts

Friday, April 8, 2016 @ 04:04 PM  posted by admin

Spring is here and it’s the perfect time to get back out into the yard to attend to damaged or diseased branches. Old shrubs need tending to as well. Pruning can help improve a tree or shrubs shape, and enhance its safety. However, pruning can be a challenging task for even the bravest of hearts. Many people are afraid they’ll make a mistake that will end up costing the tree it’s life. Pruning stimulates growth. Cutting back a shoot causes buds to grow on the remaining parts of the branch.

Getting Rid of the Bush Whack

Take care to prune shrubs that bloom early in spring shortly after flowering. Of course, some species grow more quickly, so you’ll have to adjust your pruning time to coincide with their growth patterns. Late blooming shrubs, like in summer or fall, render best results when pruned in the spring. You can expect a vigorous crop of new shoots.

Smart Spring Yard Cleanups

March is usually unpredictable with respect to weather patterns. However, the great thing about Texas weather is that it’s agreeable year round. Spring yard cleanup should be something to look forward to each year. Begin the adventure by picking up debris including leaves, rocks, branches, twigs and other items that found their way into your yard during winter months. Running a rake over your yard fluffs the grass. It’s just like running a comb through your hair.

Consider the following:

  • Give your tools a tune-up. Most people don’t consider it, but tools need tune ups just like vehicles. Your lawnmower could always use a tune-up. This way your mower always works at its optimum level.
  • Water your lawn if it looks dry. It’s spring and your lawn is thirsty and ready for a refreshing drink.
  • Wake up a hibernating yard with fertilizers. Find those parts of the yard that need reseeding and get busy.
  • Consider natural herbicides to kill those unsightly weeds. Vinegar provides the perfect solution.
  • Feel free to reseed any part of your lawn with grass varieties that thrive in your area. It’s all about working with, and not against, Mother Nature.
